The design attributed to E.W. Godwin (1833-86)
74 x 38 x 38 cm
English, circa 1875
[…]; H. Blairman & Sons, 199os; the late John Schaeffer, Sydney
An ebonised table of this pattern (also formerly with Blairman) is included in Susan Weber Soros, The Secular Furniture of E.W. Godwin with Catalogue Raisonné, New Haven & London, 1999, no. 222.
Soros notes that while there is no known drawing for this table, many of its features ‘link to the work of Godwin. The elegantly splayed legs, the valanced apron under the middle shelf, the baluster-turned supports, and the latticework side panels areal features found in many of Godwin’s furniture designs…’.
