  • Notes

The present cabinet corrresponds with the lower half of a Goncalo Alves bookcase exhibited in ‘George Bullock: Cabinet Maker’ (London, 1988, no. 39).  Bookcases of this form were also supplied by Bullock for Napoleon’s use on St Helena.  The design can be compared to the slightly later ‘Lady’s book-case, with Cabinet’ published by Richard Brown in 1822: see George Bullock: Cabinet-Maker, no. 39.
