Notes
Gillow’s design for their ‘Edis pattern’ chair appears in Estimate Sketch Book 344/115, f. 88 (Westminster Archive Centre), and is dated 5 May 1870. The chairs probably continued in manufacture during the whole of that decade.
The model was used extensively at the Midland Grand Hotel, in first and second floor corridors.
Two more chairs of this design, each stamped ‘GILLOWS LANCASTER’ were with Blairman’s, and are now in a private collection.
