Designer / Maker
Designed and manufactured by W.A.S. Benson (1854-1924)
29 (to top, when shade facing down as a desk lamp) x 22 cm (diameter of shade at front)
English (London), circa 1900
The lamp retains its original surface throughout.
A similar lamp on a shorter stand and with a conical vaned shade, is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum (M.957-1983: gift of H. Blairman & Sons).
For a copper variant, see The John Scott Collection Architect-Designers from Pugin to Voysey, 2015, no. 109.
It is thought that this model, when pointing up as shown here, could be used to light pictures; it can also be used as a desk lamp.
