The form and scale of the present tables correspond with several two-drawer tables designed by Ernest Gimson. Waals took over Gimson’s workshop on the latter’s death. The designs are in the collection of The Wilson, Cheltenham.
See, for example, a slightly larger oak dressing table (1941.222: 440); another similar table (1941.222: 302) and a third (1941.222: 26).
A closely related, but slightly more elaborate table supplied to Arthur Mitchell for Glenfall House is in the collection of The Wilson; see Annette Carruthers and Mary Greensted, Good Citizens Furniture: The Arts and Crafts Collections at Cheltenham, 1994, no. 56.
