Designer / Maker
Presumably designed by Félix Bracquemond (1833-1914)
Manufactured by Creil et Montereau (1866-75),
for Eugène Rousseau (1827-90)
Faience, with hand-painted decoration
23 cm (diameter)
French (Paris), 1866-75
With mark of Creil et Montereau in use during the initial period of production of the Service Rousseau (see right)
Unlike the Service Rousseau, which has printed and hand-coloured decoration, this plate is hand-painted. To date, it appears to be without precedent, and it has been suggested that it might have been an experiment, maybe painted by Bracquemond for Rousseau.
We should welcome information that might add to our knowledge about this idiosyncratic plate, bearing the Service Rousseau mark.
