The Winter Antiques Show 2016

The Winter Antiques Show 2016

The year is barely three weeks old, but here we all are, back in New York for the Winter Antiques Show.  This long running fair, established in 1955, supports the East Side House Settlement, which was itself founded in 1891.  This community-based  organization in the South Bronx works with schools, community centres and others to bring quality education and training to approximately 10,000 individuals each year.

Our shipment from London was delivered to the Armory this morning, and we have spent the day setting up the stand.  The emphasis this year is on the British Arts & Crafts Movement. Highlights include our centrepiece, a book table designed by Joseph F. Johnson for Heal's, in about 1925: the same model was shown at the Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts D√©coratifs, 1925.  We are also showing a secretaire cabinet designed by W.A.S. Benson for Morris & Co. (like one shown at the London Franco-British Exhibition, 1908), a Morris & Co rug, and a set of shelves designed by Ernest Gimson.

Among the ceramics are lustre-decorated vases by Pilkington from the collection of Sir James Stirling (1926-94).  We are also showing ceramics and metalware designed by Christopher Dresser, and stoneware by Pierre-Adrien Dalpayrat.

The Winter Antiques Show opens on Friday 22 January (preview Thursday 21 January); we look forward to welcoming you in our usual corner: stand number 13.

Should you require a ticket, or any other information, please do not hesitate to be in touch. Martin Levy can be reached during the fair on +1 917 297 2167.
