Circular table

Oak

76 x 127 cm (diameter)

English or German, third quarter of the nineteenth century

Notes

The distinctive features of this table are its beautifully executed parquetry top and the robust, broadly carved structure of the supports.

As the overall design does not correspond with any known English models, we presently incline towards a German attribution.  Most reminiscent, although generally less sophisticated, are the parquetry-topped tables by Lövinson & Yacoby whose Berlin-manufactured furniture was also retailed through outlets in London and St Petersburg.

For more on Lövinson & Yacoby, see H. Blairman & Sons, Furniture and Works of Art (2006), under no. 8.
